As a fast-track project, Ghantoot Group required multiple solutions to form the walls, columns and slabs of the building. With a focus on speed of programme, RMD Kwikform’s Prop Tableform slab system and Rapidclimb climbing formwork were used on the project. For the wall & column solutions, Superslim Soldiers with GTX Beam and Kwik Column were utilised.
As the slab support was constructed into tables, the on-site team could simply move tables from one floor to the next with no dismantling or reerection required, dramatically reducing the slab construction cycle time, speeding up the construction process. With the availability of crane support, the cores of the towers could be cast using the integrated Rapidclimb climbing formwork system, with second fixing safely conducted using the access platforms.
Due to the compact nature of Rapidclimb, the onsite team opted to follow the core construction casting slabs as soon as the core section was completed. With site assistance technicians from RMD Kwikform supporting the erection teams, the time needed to complete a core and slab section was reduced by up to 50% from the initial phases of the project to the 40th floor.
Commenting on the project Ahmed Atalla of RMD Kwikform, said: “The key to this project was to deliver the most time and cost effective solution to the Ghantoot Group that would allow the team onsite to meet its very demanding programme time. Because the business was familiar with our table formwork they recognised the benefits in using this system for the slab construction.
When it came to the core formwork, this was the first project in Abu Dhabi to use the Rapidclimb climbing formwork solution.
“As the project progressed, the team were able to reduce the time it took to complete pours, taking full advantage of the reusable wall formwork panels integrated into the Rapidclimb system. From a practical point of view, because the access platforms are all built into the system, including a trailing platform for second fixing, the erection team could easily operate the integral jack striking mechanism, moving the panels back by up to 75cm.
“This allowed the team to clean the panels before the whole system, including the frame and shutters was lifted by crane to the next pour level. By keeping the shutters pulled back the steel fixing team were able to use the integral platform to safely and swiftly fit the rebar for the next pour, with the shutters then moved into place and fixed together with webties ready for the next pour.”
By providing all of the formwork and shoring equipment for the project, RMD Kwikform engineers were able to optimise the design solutions at every phase to allow the Ghantoot Group site team to take advantage of both cost and time savings.
Commenting on the importance of the design and site support, Project Manager Marwan Hilles said: “This project was all about safely achieving fast concrete cycles. Working with the RMD Kwikform team we were able to hone our erection processes with the site support team to achieve slab cycle times of just 7 days. This was only made possible by using the Tableform solution for the slabs and Rapidclimb for the core.”
“For me it was the simplicity of the Rapidclimb system that made it so attractive, as you only have to make simple adjustments to the steel fixings to allow the platform and shutters to be lifted as a single element by crane. For our team that meant no time was lost dismantling and re-erecting the shutter.”
In all RMD Kwikform provided a comprehensive range of formwork solutions to support the complete project, from basement levels, right through to the 40th floor. Both the design and site assistance team helped the Ghantoot Group with a full range of concrete works including single sided walls, shear walls, columns, core walls and slabs, all within a very challenging programme time.
