RMD Kwikform has supplied a Maxima Panel formwork solution to Civil Engineering Contractor Andrew Scott Ltd for the renovation and improvement of a blast furnace in South Wales for Tata Steel.
Tata Steel, one of the world’s largest steelmakers and Europe’s second largest steel producer has put considerable investment and effort into the renovation and upgrading of its Port Talbot Plant in South Wales. Main contractor Andrew Scott Ltd is undertaking the works at blast furnace number 4, which are being undertaken to increase efficiency and environmental performance, required a time and cost effective formwork solution to construct the 4metre high cooling tower walls.
David Pugh Andrew Scott Ltd’s Contracts manager commented; “On any project that involves manufacturing, time is always of an essence. Therefore it was vitally important that we invested in a formwork solution that could be erected quickly, safely and easily, while still providing an excellent finish at the end of the project.”
For RMD Kwikform’s engineering team there was only one solution; after speaking to Andrew Scott Ltd, it quickly became apparent that Maxima, RMD Kwikform’s 80kN/m2 large panel wall formwork system would provide the perfect solution on this job. The lightweight nature of Maxima combined with its adjustable heavy-duty alignment props and captive quick heads mean it can be erected very quickly and safely, achieving the required 4metre height in just one vertical and one horizontal fix.
The equipment supplied by RMD Kwikform will remain onsite for between four and six weeks while works are carried out.
